ARTIST STATEMENT

I started seriously delving into scale models during my architecture studies. Over the past twelve years, I have been more intensively focused on documenting Slovenian vernacular architecture and crafting models of them, mostly from wood. In the last two years, I have expanded my area of interest to include vanishing traditional architecture from around the world.

I'm actually inspired by anonymous folk vernacular architecture, the work of simple masons and carpenters. The beauty of these buildings lies in their simplicity. They are not ceremonial or sacred structures with state protection, so these objects quickly vanish in today's world of different lifestyles.

Yet, due to their sustainable construction principles using natural building materials and harnessing natural resources (wind, water, sun), they also convey an important ethical message. This principle is also followed in the crafting of models using natural materials (wood, veneer, paper, clay, etc.) and predominantly by manual work. These buildings are no longer being constructed; existing ones are decaying, so I try to preserve them in the form of fragile wall art miniatures protected behind glass.
In this way, I share my passion with you, bringing the beauty and significance of our shared heritage into your home.

However, folk architecture is not the only passion. Inspired by the immense richness of the world's architectural heritage, the discovery of materials and their processing opens up unforeseen expressive possibilities.
